Civic Nebraska is pleased to welcome Charity Iromuanya as our youth leadership programs manager. In her new role, Iromuanya will direct and coordinate Civic Nebraska’s after-school Community Learning Center programs across Lincoln. She begins full-time Aug. 2.
Charity’s main responsibility will be to ensure that Civic Nebraska’s Community Learning Centers, or CLCs, are performing at a high level and are in line with all licensing and accrediting standards, regulations, policy, and procedures. She also will work with parents, teachers, administrators, and community partners maintain and add to the Centers’ high-quality and meaningful programming.
As part of our Youth Civic Leadership programs, Civic Nebraska has administered an on-site Community Learning Center at Campbell Elementary School since 2017. In August we’re opening new Centers at Randolph Elementary School, Lincoln Northeast High School, and Lincoln High School. Charity will oversee the four site leaders, called school community coordinators, at each CLC.
CLCs, housed at school sites, create partnerships that provide opportunities and support services that lead to improved student learning and development, stronger families and healthier neighborhoods. They provide a healthy meal, academic enrichment, and a fun, safe environment after school.
Charity, a graduate of Lincoln Northeast, was most recently the school community coordinator at Everett Elementary School. A former standout high school and college athlete, she also is the head girls basketball coach at Lincoln Northeast. In May, we honored her with the Outstanding Educator Award at our 2019 Strengthening Democracy celebration, in recognition of her innovative work on behalf of students at Everett.
